The Past
He was born on 780.M41 a central station located within a vast asteroid and space wreckage field. Hundreds of smaller mining and salvage habitats and outposts across the region transported their materials to this hub, where they were processed, assessed, and forwarded deeper into the Imperium’s industrial arteries.
One of dozens of same-generation communal siblings within his family-clan collective, Orion began working from a young age in the classification and assessment of recovered salvage and recyclable materials overseen by the collective. Notably, Orion passed psychic screening at the age of ten without any sign of latent powers—suggesting a delayed or artificially suppressed awakening. He taught himself to read and write, a rare feat in his environment. As a teenager, he also served aboard cargo barges bound for isolated habitats and minor settlements, primarily handling duties related to accounting, invoicing, and payroll.
Usually psychic abilities activate in situation of high stress, strong emotion or near death experience. How Orion found out that he was a psyker or was he unaware of it and used his powers subconciously?
As a young adult, Orion became a key witness in a highly unusual and severe serial murder case that afflicted several remote habitats. His testimony and intuitive insights proved invaluable to an Adeptus Arbites investigation team. As a result, he was regularly recruited to assist under-resourced enforcers in similar cases, often acting as a “local culture consultant” thanks to his deep familiarity with fringe-station society.
However, it soon became apparent that Orion’s abilities extended beyond mere local knowledge. His uncanny effectiveness in solving cases raised suspicions, ultimately compelling the Arbites investigation lead to surrender him to the Scholastia Psykana for formal assessment, psychic inhibitation and training on Terra.
There, Orion was identified as a powerful psyker, though his mental patterns were deemed too rigid or atypical for traditional specialization paths, such as Astropath Transcendent or Primaris Battle Psyker. Nonetheless, he was sanctioned and returned to his home station, where he resumed full-time work investigating serious violent crimes with Ordo Arbites—particularly interrogating suspects who resisted or circumvented conventional methods.
Years passed in this grim service until a notable incident shook the station: during the prolonged docked stay of a noble vessel belonging to House Ulm, a disturbing spike in psychological anomalies occurred among the station’s population. The symptoms went far beyond the expected neuroses of environmental strain—many individuals displayed signs of psychic trauma, and in some cases, physical abuse. Yet, none of the victims could recall anything specific about what had befallen them, despite clear indicators of severe post-traumatic stress.
Ordinarily, the matter might have been dismissed as inexplicable or buried by local authorities. However, through multiple interviews and psychic readings, Orion uncovered recurring—though fragmented and seemingly expunged—impressions of a shadowy figure that the victims had encountered. The impressions were vague, as if forcibly erased. Orion became convinced that the victims had been subjected to deliberate psychic manipulation, possibly assault, and that their memories had been strategically altered or suppressed.
As his investigation deepened, Orion discovered evidence suggesting that the mysterious figure had been preparing an assassination attempt on Rogue Trader Captain Karfa von Ulm, scion of the noble house whose ship had docked at the station. Acting swiftly, Orion delivered warning to Karfa, and the assassination attempt was ultimately foiled.
Impressed—and perhaps intrigued—Karfa von Ulm inducted Orion into his personal retinue, ostensibly as a trusted advisor and sanctioned psyker. Orion was stationed aboard the Ignis Aeternus, the von Ulm dynasty’s star vessel, while Karfa returned to attend to his family’s dynastic obligations.
Imperial mandate of Orion B’salva
Karfa never returned. He sent no message, left no instructions, and gave no explanation.
Now, ten standard years later, Orion remains aboard the Ignis Aeternus, serving as its sanctioned psyker, still wondering what became of Karfa von Ulm. He suspects—though cannot confirm—that Karfa had been assembling a crew for something vast in scale and unknown in purpose.

Rank & Authority
- The Warp Channeler is a sanctioned Imperial psyker trained by the Scholastia Psykana and formally attached to the dynastic vessel Ignis Aeternus as its principal psychic operative.
- Unlike an Astropath, the Warp Channeler is not bound to astrotelepathic communication. Instead, he serves as the dynasty’s psychic sentinel, void-phenomenologist, and first line of defense against immateric corruption.
- Answerable to the Lord-Captain, Ship’s Seneschal, and—where relevant—the Skolana Psykana or Ordo Hereticus, though considered an autonomous specialist in warp-related matters.
- Holds unique authority to advise or override officers in cases of psionic threats, warp instability, daemonic influence, or non-sanctioned psychic activity.
Core Responsibilities
Surveillance of Psychic Phenomena
- Conducts regular psynsientic sweeps of critical ship sectors, shrines, medicae bays, and barracks to detect latent psychic disturbance, residual warp energy, or malevolent spiritual presence.
- Monitors unusual crew behavior, mass hallucinations, and dream-convergence patterns that may signal warp-borne intrusion.
- Logs all warp-anomalies in the Codex Daemoniarca, a sealed record held within the captain’s quarters.
Investigation of Moral Threats
- Investigates incidents of witchcraft, heresy, daemonology, or xenos psychic incursion.
- Cooperates with Confessor-Abbot, Master of Arms, and internal security agents to identify, isolate, and interrogate possible warp-touched individuals.
- May declare Psionic Quarantine on affected areas or individuals, pending Ecclesiastical or Inquisitorial clearance.
Protection Against Daemonic Incursion
- First responder in the event of warp breach, possessions, malignant manifestations, or summoning attempts.
- Maintains and deploys sanctioned psionic defenses, including warding runes, hexagrammic seals, and soulfire litanies.
- May lead or support exorcisms, ritual purifications, and psychic counter-assaults in coordination with Ecclesiarchy forces.
Psynscience and Scholarly Duty
- Studies and catalogs psychic artifacts, warp irregularities, and forbidden lore recovered during expeditions or engagements.
- Maintains a sanctioned library-vault of controlled psynscience tomes and wards, locked behind Mechanicus-encoded seals.
- Acts as an advisor to the Lord-Captain, Navigator, and Enginseer, providing insight into warp route turbulence, astral flares, and potential daemonic interference in void operations.
Additional Notes
- The Warp Channeler’s presence aboard ship is considered a necessary risk—revered, feared, and tightly regulated.
- Must bear the Sigil Imperialis and Psykana Brand at all times.
- Under extreme circumstances, may be authorized to perform controlled immateric manipulation to stabilize warp anomalies or shield vital personnel.
