Tabletop RPG Timeline (FFG)
The original Rogue Trader tabletop RPG by Fantasy Flight Games is set around 816.M41 to 820.M41. Within this period, several powerful dynasties dominate the Koronus Expanse:
- Calligos Winterscale is described as one of the most powerful Rogue Traders in the Expanse. His domain, known as Winterscale’s Realm, includes multiple colonies and holdings.
- Aspyce Chorda is another major Rogue Trader, infamous for seizing control of her dynasty through internal purges. She disappears or retires before the campaign start, with her heir Incendia-Bastaal Chorda taking control of House Chorda.
These characters are central figures in the Edge of the Abyss supplement, which details the politics and rivalries within the Expanse.
CRPG Timeline (Owlcat Games)
The Rogue Trader CRPG by Owlcat Games is explicitly set around 531.M41, nearly 300 years earlier than the tabletop RPG’s campaign start. However, multiple characters that should not logically exist at the same time appear in both timelines:
- Calligos Winterscale is featured as an active, middle-aged character, despite being listed as a powerful leader nearly three centuries later in the tabletop RPG.
- Incendia-Bastaal Chorda appears as the current head of House Chorda, despite her succession being dated to well after 785.M41, when Aspyce Chorda vanished.
No direct mention is made of Aspyce Chorda in the CRPG, but given the presence of her heir, she is presumably deceased or otherwise removed from power.
Timeline Conflict
This results in a major chronological discrepancy between the two versions of the setting:
| Character | CRPG (c.531.M41) | Tabletop RPG (816–820.M41) |
|---|---|---|
| Calligos Winterscale | Active, influential | Active, decades into rule |
| Aspyce Chorda | Not mentioned | Disappeared pre-816.M41 |
| Incendia-Bastaal Chorda | Head of House Chorda | Succeeds Aspyce around ~785.M41 |
Campaign Meta-Resolution
To reconcile the inconsistency, in our campaign we assume:
- The events of the CRPG occur after the Rogue Trader RPG timeline (i.e., post-820.M41).
- Aspyce Chorda has already vanished by this point, consistent with RPG lore.
- Incendia-Bastaal is now active as seen in the CRPG.
This keeps the characters and events internally consistent while respecting both sources.
