Psy Rating
Psy Rating represents a psyker’s raw attunement to the Warp — their capacity to channel and shape psychic energy into effect. In game terms, each point of Psy Rating allows the projection of 5 levels of psychic power. This determines both the maximum power level they can attempt and how effectively they can manifest Spontaneous, Formulaic, or Ritual effects.
Maximum Power Level by Psy Rating
| Psy Rating | Power Category | Max Power Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PR 1–5 | Minor to moderate psykers | Level 5–25 | Typical for Sanctioned Imperial psykers, minor xenos warlocks, or low-tier Chaos cultists. |
| PR 6–10 | High-grade psykers | Level 30–50 | Common among Space Marine Librarians, Chaos Sorcerers, Eldar Farseers, etc. |
| PR 11+ | Alpha-Level Psykers | Level 55+ | Incredibly rare. Capable of reality-shattering effects, warp storms, and large-scale manipulation. |
Daemonic Presence
While Psy Rating governs mortal psykers’ control over the Warp, Daemons and similar Warp-entities do not “channel” power in the same sense. Their strength is measured by Daemonic Presence — a reflection of their innate resonance within the Immaterium. It is not learned or trained, but intrinsic and absolute.
In game terms, Daemonic Presence determines the ambient level of power the entity exerts upon reality, influencing both manifestation effects and reality distortion fields.
Maximum Effect Level by Daemonic Presence
| Daemonic Presence | Category | Power Effect Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| DP 1–5 | Lesser Daemon | Level 5–25 | Typically minor daemons, nascent Warp entities, minor heralds. |
| DP 6–10 | Greater Daemon | Level 30–50 | Manifesting catastrophic phenomena; reality bends in proximity. |
| DP 11+ | Warp Monarchs | Level 55+ | Abstract, immense forces — avatars of Chaos, or Warp-incarnate nightmares. |
Occult Mastery
A sorcerer’s effect strength is influenced by ritual complexity, tools, and conditions — not emotion or raw talent.
Maximum Effect Level by Occult Mastery
| Daemonic Presence | Category | Power Effect Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| OM 1–5 | Occult scholars, folk-witches | Level 5–25 | Typically minor daemons, nascent Warp entities, minor heralds. |
| OM 6–10 | Sorcerous traitor marines, High-priests of Tzeentch, Grey Knights, Ordo Malleus | Level 30–50 | Manifesting catastrophic phenomena; reality bends from rituals. |
| OM 11+ | Apotheosis or Henosis | Level 55+ | Abstract, immense forces — avatars of Chaos, or legends of the Imperium. |
Pure Devotion
Unlike psykers who channel the Warp through talent, or daemons who embody it, faith-workers — saints, confessors, miracle-bearers — tap into the Warp through absolute conviction. Their strength is measured in Pure Devotion, a reflection of their unshakable belief and alignment with a transcendent ideal, embodied in the God-Emperor of Mankind.
Devotion is not commanded through will or bound by sigil, but emerges spontaneously and irresistibly when belief becomes total. Through ritual prayer, liturgical acts, or divine ecstasy, the faithful become conduits of collective belief — their bodies and souls vibrating with spiritual energy shaped by humanity’s shared faith.
In game terms, Faith Rating governs miraculous effects, blessings, banishments, healing, and divine wrath. It manifests not by command, but by alignment, sincerity, and circumstance.
Maximum Effect Level by Pure Devotion
| Pure Devotion | Category | Power Effect Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PD 1–5 | Adeptus Sororitas, Saints, Martyrs | Level 5–25 | Common among preachers, shrine-keepers, and devout laypeople. Minor blessings, moments of protection. |
| PD 6–10 | Living Saints | Level 30–50 | Rare individuals through whom the Emperor’s will flows. Capable of radiant miracles and mass inspiration. |
| PD 11+ | The God-Emperor | Level 55+ | Legend in form. Warp-reality bends in the presence of his will; entire armies are invigorated by his presence alone. |
Regulating Warpcraft Strenght
Psykers, daemons, sorcerers and devoted can adjust how much of their Warpcraft Strenght they channel during projection. This regulation allows them to balance power output with Warp stability. There are three primary modes:
Fettered Projection
- Use: The warpcraft wielder intentionally suppresses their power to maintain maximum control.
- Effect: Warpcraft Strenght is reduced by half (rounded down).
- No Perils of the Warp: The power is projected safely, without Warp backlash.
- Drawback: Weakened projection — lower power level, diminished Penetration.
- Best for: Stealth use, psychic restraint, high-risk environments.
Unfettered Projection
- Use: The waapcraft wielder channels their full Warpcraft Rating.
- Effect: Full-strength projection with normal risk of Perils of the Warp.
- Perils: If a natural 0 is rolled, consult the Perils of the Warp table.
- Balanced: The standard method — a compromise between power and safety.
Push the Limit
- Use: The warpcraft wielder overextends, drawing more Warp power than they can safely contol.
- Effect: Temporarily increase Warpcraft Strenght by +1d5, or a fixed value (GM’s discretion).
- Increased Perils Risk: If Perils are triggered, roll twice and apply the worse result.
- Silent Projection not allowed — the strain is too intense to conceal.
- Fatigue: May trigger Fatigue and requires Toughness tests after projection.
GM Notes (Optional Rules)
Talents, Traits, or Psychic Disciplines may reduce the penalties or increase safety when Fettered, or mitigate Perils when Pushing.
Warp Saturation or Environmental Pressure may prevent Fettered casting or force psykers into Unfettered or Pushed states.
