Land tile STC Artificial Gravity System

The so-called “Land Tile” is a Standard Template Construct (STC) blueprint for a self-sustaining artificial gravity floor unit, originally discovered by Magos Explorator Arkham Land during his pre-Heresy archaeological expeditions. While overshadowed in renown by his recovery of STC systems related to the Land Raider, Land Speeder and Land Crawler, many within the Mechanicus now quietly acknowledge that the Land Tile may be the most widely implemented and enduringly functional STC of all his finds.

Design Characteristics:

  • Form Factor: Square tile measuring 100 by 100 Imperial Standard Meters (1 acre).
  • Material Composition: Laminated strata of piezoelectric crystalline composites and gravitationally tuned substrate alloys.
  • Field Output: One tile generates standard Terran gravity (1G) over its entire surface area.
  • Modularity: Tiles may be seamlessly linked to cover entire floors, plazas, or hangar bays, forming a uniform gravitational plane regardless of surrounding mass or orientation.

Functional Notes:

  • Power Independence:
Unlike inferior gravity technology, the Land Tile requires no external power draw. The system generates artificial gravitational force via the kinetic-to-piezoelectric energy exchange induced by footfall, vibration, and natural motion within the structure. The very act of movement powers the field.
  • Adaptive Calibration:
Technomats and adepts trained in the deeper gravitational harmonics of the system may adjust the gravitational constant, enabling:
    • High-gravity training for elite soldiers
    • Low-G acclimation drills
    • Simulation of non-Terran planetary conditions

Imperial Applications:

The Land Tile STC design is now used across the Imperium in:

  • Orbital station decks
  • Interstellar voidships (including many under the Adeptus Mechanicus, Adeptus Custodes, and Rogue Trader dynasties)
  • Voidborn fortress-habs
  • Ecclesiarchal pilgrim-shrines in null-gravity orbits
  • Imperial Navy and Imperial Guard training decks requiring field-adjustable gravity loadouts

Mechanicus Commentary:

“Though it lacks the dramatic mass of his vehicular triumphs, the Land Tile embodies the machine-spirit’s gentler genius—quiet, ceaseless, perfect. That it requires no power makes it elegant. That it still functions ten thousand years on makes it sacred.”
