Criminal Elements of the Drusus Marches
Kasbalica Mission
One of the most infamous underworld cartels of the Calixis Sector, the Kasbalica combine religion with crime. Their “mission houses” double as shrines and criminal dens, masking operations in smuggling, assassination, narcotics, and human trafficking. In the Drusus Marches they exploit pilgrim routes to Sentinel and food convoys from Spectoris, ensuring a steady flow of contraband hidden amid legitimate trade.
The Serrated Query
A radical heretek cabal and xenos-smuggling ring, the Serrated Query supplies forbidden artifacts and archaeotech to ambitious nobles, corrupt Rogue Traders, and sects of the Mechanicus. They are strongest on the borders of the Marches, where expeditions probe into the Koronus Expanse and Halo Stars. Many Administratum registrars and merchant guilds have been quietly infiltrated by their agents.
The Cold Guilds
Loose alliances of smugglers and shadow-clans, the Cold Guilds operate within void stations and warzones such as Tranch. They move weapons, forbidden stimulants, and stolen technology across the Marches. Though fragmented, they are reliable facilitators for larger cartels, and often act as intermediaries between pirates in the Expanse and buyers within the Imperium.
Narco-Warlords of Fervious
Feudal clans of Fervious profit from the venomous wildlife of their world, exporting poisons and stimulants in hidden shipments. Their products are prized in the underhives of Scintilla and beyond, making the warlords valuable partners for smugglers across the Marches.
Free Traders
On the borders of the Drusus Marches and along the treacherous routes around the Maw, a shadow network of so-called Free Traders operates. Though they present themselves as independent merchants and explorers, many are in truth fronts for pirate captains and void-gangs. These crafty voidfarers deliberately steer clear of Imperial Navy patrol routes, lying in wait for convoys funneled from the Koronus Expanse. By striking at isolated cargoes before they reach the fortified ports of the Marches, the Free Traders profit from plunder while maintaining a veneer of legitimacy. Their ships are often old merchant hulls refitted for speed and ambush, their crews adept at masking piracy beneath false charter seals.
